You’ve likely heard, the U.S. Government will soon be sending stimulus payments to the majority of households in America. That’s good news during our national economic struggle resulting from Coronavirus, or COVID-19.

What’s not good is that scammers are taking advantage of this unprecedented experience by placing a new type of phone call.

The caller poses as a government employee who requires your personal banking information for deposit of your stimulus payment.

These calls are not legitimate.

Information currently on file with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will be used for distribution of stimulus checks. No government agency — or agency of any kind — has been tasked with seeking your contact information for this purpose.

If you receive such a call, do not engage. Do not give them any of your personal information. Hang up. Don’t answer if they call back.

Be safe and be well.

As always, stay on guard.
