National Coming Out Day is Sunday, October 11! ![]()
Today, we celebrate love, authenticity, and the courage it takes to live openly as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer. We honor everyone who has taken that brave step to share their true selves with the world.
But as we celebrate visibility, let’s remember those who are still waiting in the wings.
Did you know that many LGBTQ+ aging adults still live in fear of coming forward? Many seniors grew up in an era where being themselves meant losing their families, jobs, or safety. Even today, far too many elderly individuals face discrimination, isolation, and bias—especially in care facilities or housing communities—causing them to hide who they are all over again.
It is never too late to be yourself, and it is never too late to be loved for who you are.
Let’s make sure our pride spans every generation. We need to create safe, welcoming spaces where our elders feel fiercely protected, accepted, and celebrated. They paved the way for the rights we have today—now it’s our turn to surround them with the love and dignity they deserve. ![]()
How you can help today:
• Listen: Reach out to LGBTQ+ elders in your community and hear their stories.
• Advocate: Support organizations working to ensure safe, inclusive senior housing and healthcare.
• Be a Safe Space: Let the older adults in your life know explicitly that they are safe, valued, and loved with you.
