Meet Micky Bates, who is first up.

Micky is our Healthy Living Coordinator, and she celebrates 5 years with our organization this month. Because she strives to learn all she can to improve the lives of our older adults, she has achieved certification in several important programs, like Tai Chi, Arthritis Foundation Exercise, and Chronic Disease Self-Management Education.

She feels like she gets the fun job at the agency, because she teaches our exercise and health education classes, which is her passion. “Seeing the improvement in our older adults’ lives, whether it be better balance and mobility, strengthening their sense of self-efficacy, or hearing their stories about how much stronger they feel after exercise class is so rewarding,” Micky says. “My job is to give them the tools to help them live longer, and we have fun in the process!”

When she’s not at work, Micky enjoys camping with her hubby of 23 years, hiking in nature, playing with her two young grandsons, and road tripping to the Black Hills in South Dakota.

Micky and her husband are blessed with two grown children—a son and a daughter—who are both married, and those two rambunctious grandsons mentioned above, who will be joined by an eagerly-anticipated first granddaughter in March.

Thank you, Micky, for your contributions to Young at Heart Resources!
