Today we’re introducing Edna Christian.
Edna is our Family Caregiver Coordinator and has been with the agency since July. She is grateful for the opportunity to support family caregivers as they care for their loved ones. Keeping a family member at home for as long as possible involves a multitude of tasks, so she’s armed with lots of ideas and resources to help meet that goal. “The Family Caregiver Program is designed to assist caregivers through support groups, information and education, caregiver training programs, and in-home services like respite, homemaker, or personal care,” Edna says. “There are also volunteer opportunities within the program that provide encouragement to caregivers in their important and challenging role.”
Edna earned a BM in Music Therapy at Southern Methodist University and an MA in Counseling at Dallas Baptist University. She homeschooled her two sons for twelve years, and during that time her family traveled to 49 of 50 states—she’s coming for you, Alaska!—and visited all 30 Major League Baseball stadiums.
Her older son is currently in the United States Navy’s Officer Candidate School. Her younger son is a senior in high school and plans to attend Truman State University in the fall. Edna’s husband of 27 years, Charles, is a Methodist pastor in Gower and television news anchor for NewsPress NOW in St. Joseph.
In her free time, Edna enjoys reading, traveling, hiking, and playing the flute.
Thank you for your work with Young at Heart Resources, Edna!
