We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications for candidates to represent Northwest Missouri in the Silver Haired Legislature. This is a unique opportunity to advocate for older adults and help shape policies that improve the quality of life for seniors in our community.
Why Become a Silver Haired Legislature Representative?
The Silver Haired Legislature (SHL) is a vital platform for seniors to voice their concerns, propose legislation, and influence public policy on matters that affect older adults. As a representative, you will work alongside other passionate advocates to ensure that the needs of seniors are heard by lawmakers and decision-makers.
Who Should Apply?
We are seeking individuals who are committed to advocating for the rights and needs of older adults. Ideal candidates will:
- Be a resident of Northwest Missouri and at least 60+.
- Have a strong interest in public service and senior issues.
- Demonstrate leadership experience in community engagement, advocacy, or public policy.
- Be willing to engage in outreach, research, and collaborative discussions with other Silver Haired Legislators.
- Possess excellent communication skills and a commitment to representing the interests of seniors.
Responsibilities of a Silver Haired Legislature Representative:
- Attend regular meetings of the Silver Haired Legislature, where members propose and discuss resolutions that address senior issues.
- Collaborate with other SHL representatives to advocate for legislative priorities that benefit older adults.
- Serve as a liaison between the Silver Haired Legislature and the community, providing information and raising awareness about senior-related issues.
- Engage in advocacy efforts at the state and local level to influence policies that impact seniors.

- Candidate Statement & Biography (please note, this will be published for voters’ benefit prior to and during elections) – topics to consider including are education, work experience, history of volunteering and advocacy, if applicable, as well as why you desire to run
